Is The New Voting Software Vulnerable To Hacking?

For decades, there has been a traditional voting system in the United States. Voters would essentially come out and physically cast votes in favor of their favorite candidate. Both Democrats and Republicans – the two major political parties in the U.S. – have been pretty much satisfied with the conventional voting system. Fair elections are perhaps the biggest advantage of the conventional voting system – where the public comes out and casts a vote physically. In other words, there are no chances of rigging or ‘stealing’ the elections.

Nevertheless, as technology has drastically enhanced over the last couple of years, a new voting software has been introduced. While the new voting software makes the process of casting a vote, the U.S. agencies are taking it with a pinch of salt. According to the latest updates, U.S. agencies are suspicious that the new voting software can be hacked.

Recently, the top U.S. cyber agency notified the election officials that the new voting software used in almost 18 states is vulnerable to hacking. According to the notification, the voting software – in these 18 states – have “Software Vulnerabilities.” In other words, foreign hackers can access the vending machine and eventually rig the elections. The Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Agency (CISA) has already taken notice of the matter. Thus, different tests and evaluations are going on within the agency to come up with the exact points and locations where the voting machine is vulnerable to hacking.

It All Started With Former U.S President, Donald J. Trump

Since its inception, the new voting machine was not challenged. Likewise, the security agencies of the U.S were also pretty sure that the launch of the new voting software is a success. Nevertheless, the new voting machine was suspected when the former U.S president, Donald Trump, alleged that the 2020 elections were ‘stolen.’ It is essential to note here that the former president’s allegations of ‘rigging the elections’ came after the loss he faced in the 2020 elections.

Thus, Donald Trump targeted the new voting machine. He alleged that the mandate of the American voters was ‘stolen,’ and the elections were rigged through the new voting machine. He suspected the elections were stolen – through the new voting software – in as many as 28 states. Although the former president has failed to prove his allegations in court, he still continues to downplay the voting machine.

Eventually, the new voting software was suspected. Thus, the U.S cybersecurity agencies came into play and continued their investigation of the matter. The partial report sent to the election officials suggests that even if the elections of 2020 were not stolen, the new voting software is still vulnerable to hacking. In other words, it is unclear if the voting machine was hacked in the 2020 elections. But the agencies are pretty sure that it can be hacked.
